Off grid options are going to vary depending on locale and available resources. No matter what creativity is applied, the optimal storage environment = 38F, 95%RH, no condensation.

My dad was thinking I need a root cellar as I have hills in my backyard I could use.
Would be nice to have the cold storage.
Never tried building anything like that though.
