Default Upper Kenai Trip Report 5/22/18

I floated the Upper Kenai from the bridge to Jimís on Tuesday May 22. The water was still seasonally low. The ramp is useable but due to the low water I was unable to launch from my trailer before the current started to push it downstream. The main channel had no hazards. The first braid and itís channels after the ferry was open with no wood. I didnít enter the remaining braids and canít give an accurate hazard assessment The low water at Jimís also makes it difficult to load onto a trailer without the current interfering. It was a beautiful day and we were the only ones on the river that I saw. Most of the Cooper Landing eateries were still closed but the Sunrise Inn had good burgers. Wildmanís shuttle is operational and still $45.

Thanks for the report. Love early season floats.

When I was there Sunday, Gwin's, Sacket's, The Kingfisher and Sunrise were all open for Dinner. Drove Skilak loop to just check it out, it's still...a work in progress....

Can you clarify? Thinking of floating the canyon this weekend.

Certainly passable with 4 Wheel Drive. Still some rough/soft spots.
