    Default Bacon!

    Made a bunch of bacon from the hogs we raised this summer. Hickory smoked for 8 hrs at 150*, life is good!

    Man that looks good!
    I wish I was able to raise a couple of hogs.
    But my work schedule really doesn't allow for it.
    My chickens are hard enough with this schedule and I hate to ask my friends and family to care for even more pets.
    Would be nice to have some fresh bacon with my fresh eggs though.

    We keep 5 hens that produce 4-5 eggs/day and its the best having fresh eggs.
    Being a sloper makes it tough, I hear ya.

    The homegrown pork is soooo darn good. We fed them a lot of spent beer grains and veggies. Unreal how tasty they are.

    Tried to rep ya for the bacon pics, bk, but told I couldn't. Man, that looks tasty. I bucked up a home grown pig hind quarter a couple months ago. That home grown pork is to die for. Fabulous clean flavor.

    Agree Cod, the flavor is amazing. Use the excess fat from the hogs to mix with deer or moose.
    Smothered some bacon with pepper and others with cumin. Discovered the cumin by accident and love it on bacon.
    Brined other slabs in honey or maple syrup before but the sugars cause the bacon to burn too easily when frying in the pan.
