Not worried about the other guy, I get 6K plus shrimp a year. Nothing in what I said alludes to "poor me". QUOTE]

Wow, 6k? How many do you have left right now?

I have about 12 packs left. We have shrimp every week or two throughout the year.

Over 6k, wow that's impressive, especially since you were able to do that with only 4 pots and not 5, you must be a bad *** shrimper. With your great success, I'm not sure what your gripe is?

I don't think 6K is not reachable. I usually do 500-600 in two days of setting and about 1,000 for the year. That is enough for a family of one.

Then why are you making snide remarks? Nothing better to do?

And yes, I am a bad ass shrimper. It took me lots of years to figure it out, but I usually get around 1800 to 2000 in a 3 day trip. I can tell you how many shrimp it takes to fill a 5 gallon bucket too.

20160714_122017[1].jpgI usually put 25-30 per bag in the small bags and 50 in the larger.

David, when I freeze mine I sort them by size. So depending what I am using them for I can get the most suitable size. The last few years I have been getting a lot of really big ones and they cook a little slower than the smaller ones.

I use the shrimp bait, Copper River stuff. The bait really takes a 2 day soak to work it's best. If I am putting out for the first time of the season, or have changed the bait, Little Friskies salmon cat food (2 cans) goes into each pot (I poke small holes with an awl). I use the standard bait containers and only fill the 2/3rds full. Too full it swells up and fills the jars. If filled too much water can't flow thru the container I don't feel it works as well. I have used fish remains, fish meal, dry cat food and always go back to the pellets. I buy a 50# bag at a time and then break it down into gallon zip locks.

Not the whole season. 4 trips. Don't need to catch any more than what we can eat.

And that 5 gallon bucket is one set, not a whole day. My best single day was about 15 gallon.

I used to ice fish with a buddy and some days he went out by himself. He'd always tell me he had gotten a bucket of fish. Best I could do was about 2/3 of a five gallon bucket. Come to find out his bucket was only 3 gallons.

    Looks like some good hauls.
