Do we happen to know the type and color of the Airplane incase anyone is flying south today? The family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers for a safe finding.

Looks like a beacon was located and a helicopter is en-route.

RCC reported that the signal was a 121.5 MHZ ELT. A much larger search area, many miles rather than yards...

Josh's father is my friend. I wish for the best, obviously.

I was hoping for a smaller search area. Snow machine and gear ready to go. Waiting on Troopers to call for ground search.

There were snomachines that headed out this morning and as of right now the smaller personal airplanes are standing down to allow for "the professionals" to work. The search has moved across the inlet but I don't know if that ment to the Anchorage side of the arm or to the west side of the inlet. They are an outdoors family and I'm sure they have survival gear. Hopefully they are found soon.

The 121.5 signals can bounce around and give some pretty odd APPARENT Locations.
In all of my years of search flights with the CAP the ELT was almost never where it was thought to be.

The signals right now are all over from the refuge to Mt spur and they're still looking.

Sounds like a 121.5 ELT ain't the way to go. Hope they have tried pinging cell phones.

I flew from kenai to anc on Grant this morning at 5am. Our pilot said it was a c180 that we were looking for. And the estimaged search area was 12-14 miles north of Kenai airport. We did a few circles north west or Swanson River Oilfield with all eyes looking out the windows. Bear in mind this was 5am so was still mighty dark. Didn't see anything. My hats off to Grant and our pilot for taking the time and fuel to make some circles and putting that many eyes on the ground from the sky. Nice to see they care. Then again, that's why I fly them and not our other carrier.

NW of Swanson River Oilfield is where I ride the snow machine. I was hoping they would have a smaller target area to send us into. I talked with the Troopers and volunteered. They asked that we not go out there until requested. He thought they might end up looking for us, but I promised I would not get lost. They also didn't want the distractions on the ground to divert attention.

Honestly Ross, I can see their point when searching by air. Was that a victime flashlight? Or a snowmachine headlight. Kinda same thing when seeing movement in daylight. Also you've hunted enough. Look out over Virgin snow and critter tracks jump out like a neon sign. Track up an area with sled tracks and makes what you're looking for less obvious. Trust me. I understand you eagerness to get out and help!!! Best to just be loaded and prepared to join in once the phone rings.
