Best meat grinder for the money

Well my meat grinder died on me the other day.
I kinda expected it, but I was hoping it would get me a little further then 15 pounds into a moose.
Time to find a new one!
What are the best ones for the money that you guys have found?
I don't have $700 to drop on a grinder.

They also make those kits so you can hook up a hand grinder to an elec. motor as well. I've heard they work pretty good, especially if a guy has a spare motor laying around he's not doing anything with.

That being said I bought a pretty good grinder at Sportsman's last year for far less than $700.

It's a Weston #8. 650watt motor, and just shy of 1hp. I'm sure it's far from the best, and who knows how long it will last, but for the amount I think I'm going to use it, it should be fine for quite sometime. Seemed to grind up some moose and bou pretty nicely. Can't remember how much it was exactly but less than $200 I think. Put it this way...I didn't have a lot to spend on a grinder either....

I've had a cabelas 3/4 horse for years. Goes through at least 10 to 20 deer per year.

Very happy with it.

My brother in law and sister bought a 1 hp cabelas grinder on shares. Shared the cost with 3 other families, was about $250 each. After a few years they bought the other shares out and now own it outright. We borrowed it a couple times and just bought new blades as our fee.

looking for new grinder also.. lotza brands and reviews out there. For those of you with Cabela's unit, I notice that they want the user to allow the unit to cool down after 15 minutes... Manual says:

19. DO NOT operate the appliance for more than 15 minutes at one time. After 15 minutes ofcontinuous use, allow a few minutes for the appliance to rest before next use.

Has this been an issue for any of you with this unit? thanks for the feedback.

No, didn't see that in the directions.
That said, you can grind a lot of meat in 15 mins. I think we do 20 lbs during a commercial break or 5 mins or so.
Have ground plenty of game and have zero complaints.

Cabelas 1hp hands down. Think they are 4something. I got mine on sale for $349 two years ago. They have changed the design but I doubt it went down hill. Well worth the money. Also I've never even noticed that it got hot.

While they may not be inexpensive I would be looking at the company in Anchorage that sells cutting supplies. I have purchased equipment for them in the past and have been very pleased with the stuff I bought.

Tried the cableas 1hp for the first time this season, BUY IT, it was awesome. Churned the meat into burger as fast as I could drop it in.

Cabela's has if you buy a grinder you get up to $150 off a 7 gal mixer, i picked up the 3/4 hp grinder, it mounts to the 7 gallon mixer just fine, as far as over heating, the grinders come with a ice pack that goes over the cylinder that has the auger in it, dont know what its called.

I bought the LEM big bite #22 1hp at Bass Pro for a few hundred less than the Cabelas, parts are available through the local butcher supply as it is the same model they sell. It grinds super fast and hasn't overheated yet.
