    Default Hike-a-bike caribou hunting

Finally filled my first AK big game tag with a Unit 13 caribou cow. Had a good week of hunting and camping with my sons. The youngest also harvested a tasty ptarmigan. And yes you can get a whole caribou on one bike, but it becomes a two wheel game cart.

Congratulations. I am thinking of doing a bike hunt into CCCUA next year. Looks like you all had a great time.

I did a bike/trailer caribou hunt with the lady for the first time in 13b CCUA last week. We had plenty of caribou to choose from.We got a decent bull in the first day of hunting. We started from camp and walked/rode our bikes uphill for about 4 miles, hiked up to a nice ridge for another mile. Picked a bull and shot it within 100yards. Quarterd it, and packed it to the bike trailer. Had help from a good friend 👍 It was hard work without a doubt, 100lb pack and rain will test you, but packing out was all downhill. I've done the Nelchina caribou hunt 3 times before with success, but always on an atv 20 plus miles out. This time on a bike was sweet, no stress hauling a trailer for hundreds of miles, or breaking down or getting stuck in mud on the trail miles and miles away from the truck. Bike hunting is not for everyone, we trained all summer for it and it still tested our limits, but I would do it all over again if I had a choice.
