    Default Another How Big

    Bull 1
    Bull 2
Btw let both walk, but think both were close to 50. Somewhere between 48-52
Need to know if we made the right decision

Good thing you let the top one walk. He's tall, but skinny. I've got him at about 45. Bottom is too fuzzy for my eyes to make a call on.

Are these pictures or paintings? Top one doesn't even look like he'd make it passed 41 or 42 to me, bottom one as best as I can tell deserved a closer look. If his antlers come straight up like the first bull he's probably a pass, but if they lay out flat he might be good.

    #1: 47.25"
    #2: 54.1"

Tough to tell on the second one. I just used a scale and held it up to the monitor. I used the distance between the eyes as the constant, but it was still subjective. I could be totally wrong because the eyes were not well defined on the second one.

I would have let both walk without enough brow times.

The only moose in Nebraska with spreads that exceed 50" are usually wearing spandex yoga pants. (who knew they stretch that wide??) They are easy to pass on. I don't even have to get one in the scope to know its not one I want to take home.

Seriously, I like looking at the "guess what size" pictures since we'll never really know. Its good to think about it so that when I get close to the next one I don't think about all the wrong things and make a bad decision. I didn't get to AK this year to moose hunt but will be heading to Canada hunting in two weeks so that will have to get me by until next year... Actually I haven't seen a live moose since June when bear hunting and I'm itching to see one... I'll be AK in July and September next year and would expect to see quite a few moose. I just like seeing them... They're **** cool animals... big or little.

For the short time, I'll have to guess at pictures.

#2 would definitely have my undivided attention for a while. It's tough to tell from that camera angle, but with a straight-on look I'd be curious to see how far those tines stick out. He's got bigger palms than the one I shot last weekend, but my moose had one tine on each side that kicked out an extra 6"+ that added a lot to the overall width. My best guess on #2 is the low end of the 50" range. Probably wise to let him walk, but he looks pretty likely to be 50" from that angle.

Again. Based on his right side, picture left notice how straight up and down his palm is? It doesn't lay out at all. More like a goal lost. It is also running fore and aft vs turned out. His palms all but disappear when looked at from straight on. And no palm points sticking out beyond the palm like Brian's did.. with all those odds against you it would take a huge rack to make 50. I'd do my shooting with the camera. Very nice bull.. I'm just not a gambler. Enjoy your hunt.

I would put him at 52 to 55
his pans don't lay down that much but they have some decent
    width to them

Also it's a lot easier to judge them in the field
and I would be more than happy to get out there and
double check there legality for ya

moose number 2 is close; hard to tell with the blur and poor angle. If right antler lays out and has width of left paddle, he's mid 50's. That angle he looks too close to take. 1st bull is 46". Last two pics; top one is well shy of 50; just over 40". Bottom one can't tell from pic, worth a better look because of the way his right side lays out.
