    Default Southeast blacktail success

Just got back from a quick alpine hunt in the Juneau area. Chased a couple of nice bucks around and finally connected with this guy. Deer were still up high, out of velvet, and starting to turn brown. This buck was in great shape with over an inch of fat. 90 pounds quartered up, bone-in!

We came across the skeleton of this old monarch up in the alpine. Interestingly, he appeared to have died while still in velvet based on traces of velvet still on his antlers. Speculating that he died of wounding loss, otherwise hard to explain how an otherwise healthy buck would have died in the alpine. No sign of a bear kill.
