    Default My first sheep!!

    Just got back from my first Dall hunt. I went with Alaska Remote Guide Service, Wayne Kubat. It was an awesome experience!! mentally challenging from the get go with not being able to fly in for 5 days! My registered guide, Rod Pangborn was fricking awesome to be in camp with and made the whole hunt an experience of a lifetime! Had 3 different Grizzlies mess up our various stalks but we finally got him! God I wish griz season had been open! 520 yard shot. 12 hour pack out and a night spent on the mountain. but it was well worth it! My girlfriend flew up afterwards and we went fishing in Seward and messed around the Kenai for a week.

    Excellent! Man, that ram flares out there quite a ways, doesn't he? That's great to hear that you had such a wonderful, challenging, rewarding experience. Nicely done.

    thanks man! Ya as soon as I saw him I knew I wanted him. I love the sheep that flare out wide! his left side is beat up but not broomed so he has some cool character too.

    Congratulations........I have always admired that Wayne has kept his operation small and personal.

    that is a pretty unique and beautiful ram. Congrats. Looking at your rifle I can see how you made a 520 yard shot. You probably have practiced long shots quite a bit with that thing. Looks to be titanium?
    I come home with an honestly earned feeling that something good has taken place. It makes no difference whether I got anything, it has to do with how the day was spent. Fred Bear

    Always like Wayne. We chat at church every now and again. Never heard a bad thing about him or his operation.

    Most excellent! Congrats on a full curl, nicely flared ram...!!! Did he fall and roll and put that scar on his right side of his nose, or did you happen to notice that before you shot him? Just curious as sometimes a fall will shave hair like that. Looks older though...???
    Sheep hunting...... the pain goes away, but the stupidity remains...!!!

    i'm pretty sure that was old. he had several scars on his face that looked healed. the fall put some fresh scars on his horns though! taxi can fix that though.

    36" on the long side. 35" on the short. 13.5" bases. i didn't get a full score on him. the expeditor was ready right after we got him checked in. i'm guessing high 140's someone who is better at judging sheep can probably tell me closer.

    Thanks! ya i try to practice longer distances. 500 is getting to my limit with that rifle. its a custom lightweight that my gunsmith buddy and I built. its actually not a titanium. i tried finding a titanium action. its a Remington model 7 short action, lilja #1 contour barrel, MPI ultralight stock. swaro scope. total weight including scope is 6.25 lbs. shoots 3/8 MOA groups. we built it for the ultimate sheep rifle. light weight, accurate and flat shooting. so far nothing has escaped it's 130 gr accubond at 3200 fps!

    That ram looks like an old monarch of the mountain.
    Good work, congrats on a successful well earned sheep.
    I too am interested in your rifle in the pic., is that a customized Remington? Something more specialized?

    Edit;
    I see my slow keyboarding got me again!
    Love those model 7 rifles, had 3 of them and used them a lot for high country hunting, and lots of other stuff.
