    Default First sheep

Hey guys thought I would tell you all how the hunt went, Friday creek any ram tag (ds180) buddy and I flew in the 8th and did a lot of hiking and scouting, saw lots of sheep but most were very small 1/2 curl or so, opening morning we hiked down the valley a ways and spotted a band of 4 rams watched them for a hour or so and decided it was worth going after. After a rough 4 hour stock we were almost on top of the 4 rams and 2 dink little Rams spotted us so we laid down and had a very intense stare down for about 20 min and then they walked away! Got very lucky, so we continued up a very steep shoot and peeked over the rocks and the 4 bigger Rams were bedded down, ranged them at 180yds crawled into shooting position and they all stood up and started walking away once the big one got out of the pack I put 150gr. .300 winmag right through the lungs, he rolled 100yds or so down the rocks. Got him all caped and the meat off the bone, started hiking back to camp but we were to far away so we slept a very cold long night in a moose bed, woke up at 0430 and started the tough pack out, got back to camp at 1200 made 2 mountain house and napped until the plane got there. Amazing country back there. As for the sheep he measured 40 1/4" trip of a lifetime image.jpgimage.jpgThanks for all the help everyone

Congratulations! That's a heck of a ram for your first sheep. Thanks for posting your story, I'm not heading out on my hunt until Sept 3rd, so I'm living vicariously through everyone's stories until then.

That's a classic Chugach ram there. And a real spoiler for a first sheep, my friend. You've set the bar pretty high for yourself; it's like taking a 70" moose or a 10' bear the first time out.

Congratulations on what looks like to have been a fun hunt! Best of luck on the others to come! Thanks for sharing your story!
