By next week you could have some pretty good action on the Russian. Hard to say this far out for dipping Kenai. If you are willing to work I think you will find reds pretty much anywhere next week.

Sockeye are being caught near the sawmill down Nash Road.

Nope, I'll be on the Kenai with my tight-fitting waders.

Fishing for reds on the Kenai from Jims down should be good. I didnt hit the Russian. I did fish Soldotna and got fish. Lots of limits caught. Bings and Moose river looked good too but maybe not for the smaller ones.

Middle river and below would be my target. If you enjoy dipping, that would probably produce the most meat in the freezer. If you want your kids to feel the tug of a fish on the end of a line, fishing Bings or any of the public access places in Soldotna or below should produce. It's a little early for good fishing on the Russian and it sounds like things have slowed considerably in Seward.

I heard the Gulkana is producing a solid run of reds this year. I don't know because I didn't float it this year. I spent a month out at our property building our cabin. But most years my family floats the Gulkana and some years the reds are decent in there. I heard there is a decent run in the Gulkana this year but I can't say for sure. Try calling Walt at Gulkana River Raft Rentals.
