I know this is an old thread, but just noticed it. Here are a couple options for those interested getting together with other fly tyers.

Mossy's has a Thursday night fly tying get together. Sign up on their website and you'll get a notice as to what pattern they'll be tying each week. It's geared to the intermediate/advanced tyer but there are plenty of very experienced tyers to help you out.

The Alaska Fly Fishers have a monthly fly tying clinic, http://akflyfishers.net/ Geared to all levels.
Those that are successful in Alaska are those who are flexible, and allow the reality of life in Alaska to shape their dreams, vs. trying to force their dreams on the reality of Alaska.

If you have a tenuous grasp of reality, Alaska is not for you.
