Thread: I'm loosing my carrots

    Default I'm loosing my carrots

One by one my carrot plants are disappearing. Something is eating the base of the stems or the tops of the roots. For each plant that dies, I see a dead shoot having been cut off or fallen over that he base, and then the next day its gone, I've lots two rows, seemingly a few plants at a time. I've been growing carrots in this garden with great success for years and never had any problems, but now they are all disappearing. Any ideas of what I am dealing with. No discoloration in the leaves, they are Denali seed - scarlet nantes.

"Cutworm" were bad for me too.
Timbered over hundreds of my beets before I got them under control
I dug up 100s & spread some ortho "bug getta" (Lowes) between the rows
Follow the carrot top down & you'll find the cut worm (& pulling their heads off Makes you feel good )
I scrape off a little soil as I follow it down
(they turn into moths & moths lay eggs for next year)

    I posted about them:

They wiped out my green beans. They seem to be unusually bad this year. and the volume of the black (and white) moths indicates next year will be bad too.

Wonder if the warm temps aided in more surviving thru winter ?
I lost several onions to the little buggers too. Wish they ate "Horse tail ''
