Default first time in new/old boat

So my buddy and I are heading out for the first trip in the new/old boat this week end. the boat is a 23' uniflite with a 318 inboard direct drive holds 70 gallons of gas. we were thinking of heading to the bottom of cuross pass finding a bay to stay the night and shrimp a little around there also we will be trying to catch some fish. not really wanting to head to far south as its the first trip for us in this boat. We have been out there in other boats just not this one. any advise for some fish or anything would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

I'm no expert, but people report picking up the odd King around the points of Pigot, Blackstone, Cochrane Bays, etc.

I have the same boat so you need to post a picture. When the seas get snotty throttle back to semi displacement speeds like 12-15 knots and you will slice through the slop comfortably. My boat had a 225hp OMC Stringer drive Buick powered V8.
