    Default Baiting grizzly...what I've learned

Well been at it a solid week and change so far. Putting close to 12 hours a day during prime
Times sitting about 65 yards uphill from a active bait site. Of the three baits in the area we have counted around 18 different bears counting Cubs. However none have come to the bait while we are there. New to this and figured I'd share a few things I've noticed

No pattern to when or how often they hit bait.

They don't stay long, usually about 20 minutes.

Regulars usually hit twice a day.

    They know when your there.

Just because a bear walks by don't mean he'll stop at the bait.

Just because a bear hits the bait don't mean he'll come back.

No matter how nasty maggots are on a slimy decaying beaver carcass, they will still eat it.

    Baitem907 products work.

That's about it so far. Have yet to see a grizzly at the bait, I can see where this can be frustrating. No black bears out here.

three years of hunting this bad boy. Been feeding him since '09. Only seen one other time while sitting ever! Sounds like ur bears are just as spooky as ours. Lots of baits around us though and all fairly close. Closest is about 100 yards away! But we still shoot bears. It's breading season is also what makes them have weird hours. Have to sit super quiet. Most can't. I mean like slow motion every time u move, to get water, pesky skeeter, snack, stretch legs. My dads new stand we put up had plastic bushings everywhere a bolt went through. He sat 34 hours straight to get the big ol beast

You are not alone in what you are experiencing. Just have to keep at it. I've lost track of the hours we've spent in the stand or blind this spring but I know how incredibly exciting it is to have one come in while you're there, so I will keep on going. Best of luck.

We have had the exact same experience as far as Grizzlies being difficult to pattern. Blackies seem much more at ease, and we've rarely spent more than 3 hours total in the stand before taking a blackie....but spent countless (literally) hours trying to take a grizzly.

I can only imagine he must have a comfortable stand? I spent exactly ONE night (all night) in a stand and when I got down out of it that next morning I told myself I would never do that again........much less 34 hours straight! I gotta hand it to him...

Big game brand from sportsmans. Double seater w zero gravity type mesh seating. Both seats are like a bench. Folds up. He even had a toilet up there! He knew what it would take. Just as he had talked himself into going home for a shower n nap he heard the big guy coming in. Just gotta stick w it and have the mind set.

Most of the griz that have come into my blackie baits have been at night. I'm a big fan of all night sits. 2 am, the darkest hour, seems to be best of all.

We've got cameras so we know what times. Most has been just prior to 2am. Usually from 10-2 at night and 6-9am. We've sat all those times usually every day. Gonna change things up drastically here soon and do some unconventional stuff. Grizz are not black bears. News flash I know. Lol

Hang extra chain as a noise maker for when ya sit all night. Have the guys in stand by 8pm or sooner all set up. Sit till 11am the next day.

Finally came together for us. We killed two in the last few days. 8 yard shot and a 12 yard shot. Fun stuff. Take care.
