    Default Valdez trip questions

Couple freinds and me are wanting to target rock fish and silvers possibly out of Valdez. Wondering if my 16' modified V flat bottom will be ok in the port, or if its a tad small. TIA for the suggestions.

It depends on weather and number of friends and amount of gear

Yea kinda figured that one we'd be light, no more than 3 guys and enough gear to fish for a while and thats it

I see a lot of guys doing it but if it rains is miserable. Also you'll want to fish early in the morning as opposed to afternoon. Waves pickup about 2 to 4 in the afternoon

Watch the weather, don't overload, and you will be fine. I have not had good success for rockfish close in to Valdez but haven't fished it but 3 times. Silvers - now that is another story if the run is in it is a blast!

I have fished there out of an 18 ft Bayrunner quite a bit. If you could see any white caps from shore it made fishing/shrimping uncomfortable IMO. Take note of the afternoon sea breeze that kicks up as mentioned.

I run my 16 ft hewes out there all the time. I'm yet to find good fish though. I've been about 30 miles or so out in my rig. Like others have said wind tends to build in afternoon early evening and the lays down in the evening and morning time.

I've fished all over Valdez. And I've caught fish without going through the narrows. Here are a couple I caught last summer. I've even caught a 25lb King.
