The 12th annual Alaska NRA Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) State Championship is coming up soon, the weekend of June 3-4 (Fri-Sun), in Fairbanks, Alaska. This event is for youth, ages 19 and younger, who have completed Basic Hunter Education. Registration is open and, as of this post, there is space for more youth to sign up to participate.

YHEC is a fun and educational competition for youth which includes eight challenge events related to hunting. There are four shooting events: rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader, and archery. There are four Hunter Responsibility events: Hunter Responsibility Exam, Wildlife Identification, Orienteering, and Hunter Safety Trail. Youth compete as juniors or seniors (depending on age), and compete as individuals and may also compete on a team (if organized).

Don't wait until the last minute to sign up! Last year, registration filled a week ahead.
