That is such BS! God I hope I never catch someone doing that to my pots. Of course they all (Thieves) know all they're going to get is a small fine. But you never know who might just lose it and start some lead flying. Thanks for posting...

Last year I saw a white and green boat with 2 guys on board along with 1 guy on a jet ski pull some shrimp pots while I was on my way to Whitter. The guy on the jet ski hooked on to the pots and pulled them up the two guys on the small boat grabbed the pots and emptied them. The whole process took about 90 seconds to compete.

I wouldn't let the F&G see that bang stick page 6 of the regs says "The use of any toxicant or explosive (including a shaft tipped with and explosive charge, commonly known as a bang stick or powerhead) is prohibited in the taking of fish in the waters of Alaska." I didn't see it in their before but 2 years ago I got searched and they seen mine and informed me of the rule and even pointed it out in the book. I didn't have any halibut in the boat with holes in the heads so I was good.

Thats interesting. My guess is that has to deal with the scuba divers and not a sportfisher that is trying to protect his boat from getting demolished from a large fish. If thats the case every charter and sport fishing boat that carries a gun to kill the larger halibut before loading onto there boats would be in trouble. I will have to check into that rule.

Yes I'd like to see that in writing.
I've been on charters that use them.
    Never heard of this rule.
It doesn't sound right for sportfishing.
    I know a bang stick isn't considered a gun.
A local gun store used to carry these and they had a letter posted stating that fact.
I'm guessing because people who couldn't own a gun could own a bang stick kinda thing.
If a bang stick is an explosive isn't any gun used pretty much an explosive charge?
