Yes.........But it depends on where you live, and you need a Federal Subsistence Permit.

Going off of his caption I'm not entirely sure it's legal for him... says it's from his trip to Alaska and he is based out of CT..so if he is the one dipping then no, it's not legal.

Yea, a "road trip to Alaska" sure doesn't constitute it being legal to dip net the Russian.........the nerve.

It would be a good idea to "share" this with the troopers - let them make the determination if its "legal".

Perhaps he (non-resident?) was just filming and the fishing end was legal?

Call me a skeptic, but I say it was highly unlikely for people from Ninilchik to make the long overland journey to the Russian River to dip net. And then make the long journey back with their catch, when there were plenty of fish where they lived. That would be a journey of epic proportions to make in the time frame necessary.

I remember this video coming up a few years ago after it posted on youtube and somebody saying it was legit and that the out of towner was the filmer not the fisherman. I certainly don't know for certain but I do recall it being hashed over before.

Based on the presumption that way back in the 'good old days' they made the trek before there were roads, or bridges, or boat motors, or monofilament dip nets with aluminum frames.

Dip netter is a full time residence of Cooper Landing. I issued the permit total legal.

If the guy filming is on a road trip to Alaska he is never shown touching the fish so I don't know it would do any good. I don't see him carrying all 30 by himself but that's not shown so not fair to draw conclusions and accuse of wrong doing. I believed we just went through this on another thread on the Denali highway........

Unless you are Law Enforcement, you have no authority to demand a business or anyone provide you any proof.

Since when can you demand proof. You can't legally even ask to see his permit.

Secondly no one is going to hike into the falls and take x number fish illegally, and hike back out with them, that's not how law breakers work. There are people who can get permits to dip net up there!
Do I give my friends advice? Jesus, no. They wouldn't take advice from me. Nobody should take advice from me. I haven't got a clue about anything..

Yes, it is legal to beat perfectly good salmon with a 2x2. Makes you look like a puker though.

I shake my head at that every time. nothing like bruising the heck out of good meat. Just gill them and let them bleed out.

ughh. It drives me nuts seeing someone beat a fish. I mean the heart is pumping...like you said, rip a gill, and a few painless minutes later, the fish is bled out and dead... no bruises. When I am king fishing, I grab a gill in the net, with them still in the water... I take the time to let them bleed out in the water...nice and clean, perfect...
