    Default Knik River

    Hey guys,

I've never run the Knik before. Thinking about taking my 20' seaark OB jet out for a ride in early May. Any thoughts on what to expect for water levels then? Does it typically come up as the summer goes on? I was thinking then might be a pretty good time to go if there is snow melt (oh wait....what snow) then.

Right now I have May 8th penciled in. If anyone else is going upriver then, I'd be interested in following along.

The Knik is actually the easiest to run right now as the main channel is well defined. The river does, and will continue to go up with melt off, rain, and warming. There are skinny spots but nothing I would worry about. It's also still running clear and is extremely easy to read for folks who haven't run it and a perfect opportunity to set a track on your Gps.

Is this trip doable with a short shaft prop or is a jet needed? I'd like to make that run up there on my Jon boat. It's got a 30HP short shaft prop.
