Thread: Extreme Shallow make over

    Default Extreme Shallow make over

Thought I'd post some progress pics of a major make over of an 18' center console extreme shallow that once had a Jmax engine package. It will now have the Hamilton 212 and FNM 250 package, 3/8" delta pad, all aluminum floor and forward console with flo tec controls. Was able to reuse the existing fuel tank and engine box will be a few inches shorter but taller then original. Hope to have it completed by next week w some performance numbers.

    Nice looking work.
kind of curious why the owner wanted to go that route on a small boat? I don't think they'll be able to really get the full benefits of the diesel/212 combo in the smaller hull. I would have thought a SJ would be the way to go. Not trying to be a downer, just curious.

Stop by Dan. He guides on the copper and has been running the first boat we powered w the 250 for a couple years. 21' Boulton. This boat was his original boat that had jet issues. One of my fabricators bought the Jmax package to put in a 13' mini he is building.

    Mel,

What an awesome repower project. If that boat performs as well as it should I expect a lot of the 21' sport jon hulls running sport jets will be considering the repower. No doubt a $70K+ boat if you compare it to what the dealers are wanting for a boat with a sport jet or outboard jet.

Just curious what the approximate cost of the motor, jet unit, and install would be for someone to have Frontier Fab make the swap?

Mel you have to rip that POS jmax sticker off of there asap!

The boat weighed in at only 2030lbs, 2600lbs with the single axle trailer. I was expecting it to come in around 2300-2400 and was surprised it came in at that weight. Upgrades were:
    FNM HPE250
    Hamilton HJ212 T2.4kw impeller
    3/8" Alu Delta Pad
    Racor 500 Fuel/Water seperator
    KLS Sand trap
    Flow Tec Steering
Flow Tec Single Lever Console Control
.100 Alum floor w/ Matson Non Skid
    Forward Console
    New Swim Step

There's over $30K in this project but given that it was basically just a hull at the start he's now got a new boat. This engine and jet package was $20K. A 300hp package with HJ212 would run closer to 30K and would only add 100lbs to the boat which would greatly increase the HP/weight ratio.

We haven't insulated the box. Depending on what is used it could add quite a bit of weight.

Go to a web site like LMC Truck (I have a Ford, but you could put in any truck you want). They sell a variety of under hood sound and heat barriors for diesel engines. Not bad price and the weight would be minimal too. Pretty cool stuff (pun intended LOL).

Had the chance to run the Extreme today. Here's the results with a full 30gal tank of fuel.

    2000rpm---9mph
    2500rpm---19mph
    3000rpm---30mph
    35000rpm--38mph
    4000rpm--45mph

The test was done on Wasilla lake with just a slight breeze. At 30mph and just me on board the engine is only burning 4.5gal. On step at 19mph the engine should be burning 2.5gal/hour. The 30 gallon tank should provide a good range at this consumption rate.

If anyone would like to take a spin let me know.
