Default Second broken part...same as the first

Well, little less than ten miles after the new shock ws put on, this one explodes. Heard this one split! At least four or five breaks. Driving off a slight slope, no load. Smooth ground.
Can't trust this thing now, really bugging me arctic cat!!!! Springs even still clean!!

Was this the second original, or the replacement?

Did they replace the shock and spring or just the spring??

Get Big Lake to get the Regional Rep involved. Something stinks. New spring same corner points to an another issue and not a machine issue.

Anyone have a spring compression scale that we can take a measurement of spring PSI?

Whoever is making the springs for Cat has got a big problem in their process. I am going to bet you are gonna see a bunch of these things with broken springs in new machines and likely not just limited to Cat.

Here is a little education point.
    Inclusion

    • Impurity inclusion during the forming process can cause micro-voids containing these materials, which weaken steel. Over time, fatiguing and inclusion exacerbate each other. Many coil spring failures start at inclusions, similarly to sudden fractures of diamonds with trapped impurities.

    They just replaced the spring.
Big problem now is I have no trust in this machine. I'm afraid to drive more than a mile from the dealership.

Holy cow- that is terrible! The chances of that happening to you so quickly- there must be a bad batch out there! I sure hope that AC makes it right for you and you get some hours/miles on it to build up trust......

Back in the late 90's we used to tease the guys riding AC snow machines by making up green tow ropes for them to match the sleds when they got towed.

    I rode a cat M8
For almost 5000 miles in two season and only changed a belt once. Machine was amazing. Cat didn't make this spring I'm guessing, but they out it on their machine.

The only way you are going to have any confident in not breaking any more springs is to replace all the springs with a after market brand.
I'm not saying I believe they are better it the only way I know of getting a spring made by some one else.

I got no problem paying to play got 14k into 33 miles and two trips back to the dealership!! Got no problem wearing stuff
Out, trashing it and replacing hit, hitting a tree, but driving on flat smooth ground and a factory part is constructed so poorly that it's only good for 10-15 miles of light use?!?! That is where my problem is.

I also feel your pain. In another life I had my own business and S*** happen. When it did I did everything I could to make the customer happy. It was the best advertising money I ever spent. You could ask AC to pay for and install the after market springs.

maybe I should. My next ride will be far away from home and for a week. I would like to have some trust in my machine.

If it were me, I'd give them the entire machne back, then take my money elsewhere and get something I can trust. A machine you're afraid to use isn't worth having.
