    Default 2016 Opener -- Who's Going?

With it less than 48 hours away, figured I would see who all had plans to head out.

I am hoping to, and likely taking the misses and 4 y/o along as the two friends originally set to go had a conflict spring up. This will be the first shrimping trip on our new boat, so expecting a bit of a cluster, but hope it all comes back to me.

We'll be in a blue Hewes 240 Pacific Explorer with yamaha gray top, likely just part way back. Say howdy if you see us.

Not sure if we are going to head up to Wells to the split or maybe south towards Kings. Since the wife is with and she gets a bit green at times, not likely getting far flung.

    Good luck all.

    akmike,

I will be curious to see which of your two strings fishes better. Please give us an update when you return. Sounds like allot of boats are headed out for the opener. I was thinking of going but worried about the parking situation.

    Good Luck to all

I've been fishing 3 different types of pots. For 2 years. 3 from Donaldson, 1 from west marine, one Alaska shrimp pots.
I always fished the round ones. On one string and square on the other.

When something happens to them I will be running all the pots from west marine that pot is the best. Can't explain why but it the truth!

Shooting for the 1130 Friday tunnel staying out tell Sunday, single handing this one. Might head out mid sound while the pots soak and wet a hook.

Wetting a hook sounds more than nice. Since commercial folk are up in Unakwik, we had contemplated Pakham but admit heading south would open up more fishing exploration. Family decided to stay home, and buddy jumped in, hoping to hit mid-day tunnel tomorrow. At this point might head down Kings Bay way to see what's shakin.

If weather permits hoping to head out and around one day to check out Eshamay/Knight area as I haven't been down that far. For whatever reason always ended up spending time on North side. So no idea what shrimping is like past NJ.

Shrimping slows off quite a bit the farther south you go, the northern sound has been the best. Good luck wildwill Knight has some OK area to shrimp

Made 11:30 pounded out to the shrimping grounds, managed to pull about 14 gallons and picked up 2 nice yellow eye between Knight and Smith. Rough start but dialed in the depth by Saturday morning, a bit rolly polly but flattened out midday Saturday. Nice weekend for this early in the season.

Touch screen on Garmin started acting up that's a bummer I'll probably have to send in for repair my nickel because it's out of warranty of course.

Well we all just got back from Unakwik. It was a very busy place. Lots of rec and commercial boats. Shrimped out usual spots and didn't do well at all. Came home with very little shrimp. Had a blast hanging out with a lot of friends and met a few new ones too. The shrimp opener is always a great way to start the summer

We had an amazing opening day for my kids first shrimping trip. Think we have two good helpers for the future. We kept it close in the event my daughter who hadn't been on the boat yet didn't enjoy herself, but she had a blast!! Good times ahead

Out on opening day and stayed way south of the commercial areas. Nice weather except for the rain but the waves were nonexistent. Saw no bears at all.

Had a good week - out on Tuesday afternoon and back Friday late morning. Rented the Paulson Cabin and introduced an old friend of mine to the wonders of PWS and shrimping

Ended up with 12 full gallon zippies of tails, so pretty happy.
