Default Boating the Susitns in April!

Another record breaking year here at Alexander Creek! Put a boat in on March 31rst this spring. Couldn't go far but by April 1rst could go up river a couple miles. Ice went out in the mouth on the 2nd and was able to go down t the Susitna. Last year the mouth of the Alexander went out nearly a month ahead of normal. On April 7th. This year was April 2nd. I hope this isn't the New normal!,"0401161146.jpg0401161146.jpg

I was at the landing Friday and it looked like it was going to go out any day, we still have about 10 inches of snow in the woods around willow, looks like summer at alexander though! Thanks for the picture didn't know it was already out down there.

Default Spring time on the Susitna

DSCN5425.jpgStill bit frozen here by me. But this strip of water goes all along the shore is getting bigger everyday! There is knee deep snow in the yard still, getting hard to walk around now just post hole in every step.

Isn't that something! We have no snow and green grass, yet we are only 10 miles apart!

The Alexander River, seems to be in the banana belt of the Susitna drainage.
What a difference 10 miles can make ..

I can't wait to try out the new boat. Is the water level pretty shallow after break up?

I think we will be running by next weekend, Normally water is low at first but when snow in the mountains starts to thaw it will rise

Here's a shot of tonight. Can see few ice bergs jamming up on the sand bar, about where the seals hang out .
