I used Tag's Reel Repair in Ninilchik last year. That worked well for me.

Used to be a guy in Slodotna awhile back...... think he was called the Reel Doctor. Don't know if he's still around though or not.....

Yes Tags in Ninilchik is great. I have used him a couple of times and am very happy with the service.
He is an authorized Penn warrnty repair center and does other brands as well.
Last time I was in there 2 years ago he said he had over $30,000 in parts on his shelves for various brands of reels.

If you're interested in trying it yourself, you might also check out www.AlanTani.com He has tutorials on rebuilds of quite-a-few of the most popular shimano reels.

Can't think of the shop name, I believe it's on Artic in anchorage.

In the past I have had problems with shops repairing my Shimano reels.
Now I shipped mine to Shimano in Irvine, Calif. when repairs are needed.

I have a TE 700 and its easy to do yourself. Download the diagram and take it apart. I do 12 reels every year and save a bunch of $$$$$. You can get any parts you need from tackle repair in anchorage for the same price as on line with no shipping expense.

I learned as a kid to fix my own reels. Take them apart methodically, laying the parts out in order on a sheet of news paper. Leave them there on the kitchen table while you get distracted doing a more pleasant task. Forget everything you learned when dismantling them. Three weeks later you find the 4 reels you took apart with all their assorted pieces in a box where mom put them so she could use the table. Fishing season starts tomorrow. Hurriedly try to get a couple of them back together for opening morning. Later on you will attempt the others. You still have a few parts left over, but somehow at least two of the four reels are 'usable.' The drag doesn't work, so you try to grab the quickly rotating handle as a salmon spools you. There after you call the two 'working' reels 'knuckle busters.'
