    Default Little Nelchina- Snow machine?

Noticed lots of Snow machine tracks the other day. Looks like people have been running up the little Nelchina with sleds starting from the Glenn highway bridge.

    Anybody know this area?

How early and how late is it safe in a typical year?

Yes there is a lot of riding to be had on that side of the highway. Many get to the glacier via Goober Lake then down the ridge. There is another trail closer to and paralleling the highway. There is no typical year. On a good year the trail over the glacier to Valdez is broke in late winter and run until late spring. If you choose to ride that side go with folks that know the area and traversing glaciers. A few have been hurt and a man died in an avalanche a couple weeks ago. http://www.adn.com/article/20160313/...ashing-machine and another I knew died on the East Fort of the Mat river http://www.avalanche.org/data.php?da...1&sort=&id=137

How has the river ice been lately? We are headed out to the cabin on that side next weekend. Just hoping that the ice is holding well.
