    Default satellite tv

hey all, drove up a motorhome (used, but new to me) from the states. it came with a freedom by motosat satellite tv connection/dish on the roof. I'm curious if anyone has one of those systems up here? so far I've only tried turning it on while camping in Eureka a few weeks ago and it wasn't able to pick up any signal. not sure if I have to sign up for service but it did pick up a signal when I was passing through Tri-cities Washington and that was two months after purchasing the unit. maybe it just picked up a local channel down there as I didn't do a lot of channel surfing, would it pick up local channels up here? although this is Alaska and I don't plan on watching much if any TV while I'm out camping, but it may come in handy for the wife and I's sanity in dealing with the kiddos.

any insight, lessons learned (the easy or hard way), tricks, suggestions appreciated...

I'll already be learning one lesson the hard way as the cover has some how become broken. picked it up out of storage for the Eureka camping trip and found a hole. come to find out the company that manufactured these is outta business so finding a replacement is pretty much impossible. I was told fiberglass to patch this one.
anyone have any good fiberglass suggestions?

I don't know anything about satellite TV, but I know you can get numerous channels of regular old fashioned TV for free with a normal antenna...

RV satellite TV pretty much does not work. It is due to the small size of the antenna and the low angle to the satellites.
