Default Hewes transom well mod ideas?

I'm looking for ideas to modify my transom well to make the space usable in a different way than as the men's urinal. I'm thinking it'd be nice to have a top surface for bait or filleting, or somehow make part of the well on the starboard side into an enclosed fish box. Anyone do something like this before or have any ideas?

Get some sanilite or other white plastic and build something like I did. It's really easy. I just predrilled countersunk and used stainless screws to hold it all together.

Rob what holds that in place? I like the height; I'm just short of 6' but the existing height of the transom box gets a little sore on the back after cleaning fish.

Jim I used blind nuts under the fish box lid. You can sort of see the 6 screws underneath it in the second pic. There are two in each of the little cubes. I use those little cubes for small tupperware containers. Brined bait, jigs and stuff. It tilts back with the lid and is at a perfect height for cleaning fish. We use that table for just about everything.

I don't have an extended transom so no fish box with surface top to build off of. Looks like perhaps making an angular-bottomed box to fill the well cavity with a cutting surface top. Thanks for the pics Rob B

Plan A: You can put a couple of 4"x4" knee braces off your splashwell board & mount an aluminum tray with sanilite liner almost the full width of your splashwell but it will be the height of your splashwell. You can see a couple of bolts for mounting the knee brackets in pic #1 of attached. I did this in my 17' SR & it works good but your back gets sore.

Plan B you can install an xtd transom, fill in your splashwell & gain a full width & depth fishbox that you can see in pics in my next post. Costs alot more, but your back will thank you.

How bout using trex? Easy to work with, thicker for side to side sheer to span the well, "slat" it so it drains, etc. when we have a boat pow wow I can draw it up. The thickness makes it a bit easier I would think for knife slots, cannon ball holders, stuff like that. I'll put more thought into it. I don't like the white look so much, or black uhmw?

akdeweyj that's exactly the mod I would love to do. Do you have more specs/pics? How many feet toward the bow does the box encroach-or overall dimensions of the box? Thanks for the idea!

I can see my next project is going to be a uhmw bait/cleanin station. Rob - does that get in the way of fighting fish? Thinking salmon with multiple rods on at the same time - or a hot halibut hole.

It doesn't get in the way fighting fish at all. It did take some time to get used to but I've always tried to keep fish away from the back of the boat anyway. The benefit is much more than the hassle of it being there. And honestly it's never been a hassle at all
