Default Fishing Boat for shallow water

I'm going to buy a Jon type boat this spring to run above the mouth of Lake Creek to fish. Water gets pretty shallow and the river gets a little narrow. I don't want to spend any more than I have so I will rule out having a boat built. Plan to run a 40 Jet unit with tiller. The boat will be left on the bank just below Bulchitna so I won't be running from the mouth of Lake Creek. Anybody besides Deweys sell these boats?

    Thanks for your input

Any mass produced jon boat with a tunnel is what you want. Are you talking a 60/40hp tiller or a 40/30hp tiller? I have Seen the Yamaha 40/30 go well on a 16' G3. So your options are a SeaArk, G3, Lowe, and Alweld. There are recommendations from short and wide 1660 to a long and skinny 1848 for only 40hp. I was most impressed with the G3 40/30 package I saw.

Thanks Sobie, not familiar with allele. I'll check it out. That's where I really need advice, best combination length and width.

Talk to the guys up in Fairbanks at The Boat Shop about Alwelds. Great customer service and worth the drive. I've got a 1852 Alweld and it's been a great boat.

Thanks, I sent them a message and ask for a quote but no response.

For Lake Creek and your budget a 1852 is the best if you will be taking your self and 3 plus people. A 1652 would be my choice is just you and a buddy or two. My favorite brand is Lowe. I think they preform the best. The G3 is popular as well. Don't get anything with less than 52 bottom , too tippy.

I run a 2060 welded sled with a 90 tiller and is great but sometimes I with I still had my Jon boat.
