Default 40 Mile Winter Caribou hunt

I talked to F&G today & it seems the 40 Mile Winter Caribou hunt should be pretty good again this year.

We saw about 1500 animals last year & my wife & I both got a Nice bull each.

My wife still has a tag so we will be up on the Steese between 12 mile summit & Eagle Summit for the opener Dec 1 .

I will be driving my Zebra stiped Ford & plan to have my yellow car hauler trailer.

    Stop by & say howdy.

    Good luck this year,

Hoping to make a trip up the Taylor Hwy if that side is going to be open this year.

I'm looking forward to a day or 2 of 40 mile hunting, but won't likely try on the opener. I would suggest anyone heading out contact the Tok F&G office and get an update on where the animals are. 883-2971 is the number. Ask for Bob.
I just spoke with Bob this morning, Tues. and 90% of the animals are in CANADA. There is one satellite collar north of Birch Cr. but no one knows if that collar represents 1 animal or a thousand.
The Taylor Hiway is the better area for numbers of animals and Bob said that Nelchina animals are moving east and some have actually crossed the Alaska Hiway.
    Good Luck to all.

    Good news to know.

Thanks for that tid bit Martentrapper.

I am still going to the Steese because I know that area pretty well. Hopefully get a bull but if not, its a day or two in the field.
