Wondering if anyone has seen decent ice around Anchorage or Mat Su? Thanks

Most lakes have next to no ice here in the valley. Bring a boat. The ones that have some I would stay off of. The weather this week will get some ice though.

I know Jewel Lake and Delong Lake have ice cover. But it is still thin. I tested DeLong yesterday. I was able to get about 5 feet from shore which would have been only a foot or two of water. I don't know how thick the ice was (it is not longer clear because of the recent snow fall that fell on about 1/4" of ice) but it was cracking and flexing under my feet. I didn't break through but felt like if I jumped with both feet I would. We have some cold weather coming over the next few days. I bet DeLong will be fishable by the middle of next week.

Is there a municipal website or state that gives ice thickness or are we the only support system?

I think this is it. But if you find something, let us know!

A friend of mine reported a solid 2" about 50' off shore on Visnaw lake out in the Meadow lakes area. That was two days ago, with the below zero temps today, I imagine it's adding quickly.

We fished little Campbell today. 4" of ice. Caught char, blackfish, and chinooks. Nothing big. Didn't see any of the big hatchery char...

Fished Little Campbell Lake (aka Beer Can Lake) last night with the scout troop I work with. About 1 foot of ice. Caught all four species of fish in that lake. Fished for less than two hours. Lots of fish but nothing big.

Just got back from fishing one of my favorite Anchorage lakes. The ice was 8 inches and the fishing was fantastic. I lost track of how many I caught. Landed mostly Arctic Char and land locked kings. Spoons were not working, so I switched to bait with a pink jig. Shrimp worked well, but my home cured salmon eggs drove them nuts. After a massive school moved in and I got bored catching them I quit using eggs and just used the pink rubber jig. I couldn't even get down to the bottom without a hit. Not a bad start to urban angling
