Thumbs up Homer Elks 2015 Winter King Derby

As of 8 pm Friday night they had 120 folks signed up for the derby! I am getting the boat ready as I write this post at 6 am! Good luck to everyone!

It has been going on for years. They don't push it as hard as the chamber king derby. This derby kills way to many kings, almost every boat will kill a limit. I went out yesterday and went 15 for 16 to 2 hours. Not going to fish the derby.

I wasn't aware this derby kills way too many Kings...is there evidence of that? Sounds more like a case of, "It's ok for ME to kill lots of Kings, but not ok for YOU to kill lots of Kings".

I hope the derby is hot fishing, and every boat gets limited.

My neighbor stopped by for a beer the night before and told me about it, we registered and managed a limit for 4 of us.
Some areas are thick with small immature Kings others Pollack.
Our biggest was 16lbs with about a 10lb average even though my wife told me after the fact he brought Bananas on board.

Some nice fish caught, thanks for posting the board.
I went barbless to make it easier to release the small ones, lots of under 20"ers.
Reminder, in Saltwater you can't keep extra small ones and they can't be taken out of the water.

Are you sure that size regulation applies to Cook Inlet? Last I knew that was a regulation pertaining to Southeast.

    There is no size limit.
April 1st through September 30th it's 5 a year, you don't have to record them if you keep any under 20"s although they still count for your daily bag limit.

The regs are a little confusing, the 5 a year goes away inside k bay from Oct. 1st through March 31st.
The misconception that some have is that you can keep more of the under 20"ers per day like you can in fresh water.

Bummer the regs are but big Kings start as feeders. I unfortunately had to keep a 17" Jack on Sunday. Hard to fill your your cooler when that happens.
