Default Anchorage processors not accepting meat

I've heard that the big 4 processors in Anchorage are not accepting bone-in meat since they are full. We were lucky to slip ours in. Is this normal or are we having an exceptional year for harvest?

I'm sure they will accept meat soon but I saw a three page wait list at one place. Nuts!

I just dropped 64 pounds off at Indian today. Granted it wasn't bone in, but was told it would a 3 week wait as they were slammed.

I always freeze the meat that I plan on taking into the processor for dogs, sausage, ect., and wait a few months until the madness ends. I get it back pretty quick after I turn it in, and its also a good way to ensure I'm getting my own meat back. I guess that only works if you plan on cutting out your own steaks, roasts, ect. and taking all the meat off the bone yourself.....

I always cut my own, and just take the burger in to be ground. We recently ground some goat with a home owner type electric grinder, and it worked surprisingly well.
