Default first AK hunt a sucess! blacktails and reindeer down on kodiak

My buddy and I just got back from our first AK hunt! You guys have an awesome state!! we loved every minute of it and learned a lot is an understatement. we had 3 of our 8 days where it didn't rain or have rain and wind! we got wet only one day to the point that we were just soaked! but it was more our fault than our gear. I killed a decent 95" blacktail buck. my buddy killed a smaller but nice looking buck. While chasing my buck we spotted a heard of reindeer and a few days later connected with them and whacked the two biggest bulls out of the herd. took 3 days to get them back to camp. The terrain and vegetation was unlike anything we've hunted in. walking on a hairy water bed with bowling balls is the description we got on what tundra was like and that sure was accurate. We couldn't be any happier with our trip and everyone we worked with that went above and beyond to make sure we had a good trip. Dan with Kodiak Kamps, all the folks at Andrews Airservice, and Lee with the B&B we stayed at before and after our hunt were awesome folks to deal with. The guys down at the AK fish and game office there were great and gave us valuable info as well. several of you guys on this forum provided info that we very much appreciated. here are a couple pics of the reindeer we shot. we were stupid and rushed and didn't get any good pics of our deer but i'll throw a pic of my bucks rack on too.

Buck scored 95". the cape got messed up and I would like to hear any recommendations for getting a cape to be able to mount him. Anyone hunting blacktails on Kodiak I'd buy a cape from you! I would prefer one that isn't rutting and doesn't have a huge swollen neck. let me know if you got anything or have any ideas for me to get a cape. thanks!

It did very well. I like it. It's not the Teton like its the better stuff. We got wet the day we killed the bou but I'm pretty sure that was a result of sweating our asses off and open vents. It dried out fast and held up good. Stayed very warm. It was light. Only thing I wish I had was another set of rain gear! Might buy the Teton rain gear as a lighter backup when I come back and hunt next year.

Congrats on the bulls and bucks. Im headed down on Tuesday, for goat and deer. I'll see what I can do about your cape situation as well.

Looks like you had a great hunt!
