Default Rain and fog cramping my business

I have had a young CFI at my place the last few days trying to schedule a SES-com check-ride up near Sterling. The darn fog , rain and low clouds have really messed with us. It was ok up in Sterling and sorta marginally OK here in Kachemak Bay, but the were walls of gray fuzzies in between.

Bummer...! Hopefully he will get a break...Got beer in the fridge though huh?

I watched an interesting weather phenomenon the other day. I am a few miles from the Hatcher Pass area and get a good view of the mountains. At the end of August we had a strong cold air mass approach from the North and there was a huge drop in temperature in short order. As the cold dry air came over the mountains and collided with the warm moist air it took the appearance of a waterfall as it sank and clouds formed. We had frost the next couple of nights. 50 degree nights to the low thirties at night.

Rain and fog in coastal Alaska in September? Who'd have guessed that?

Yeah I told him , but that is when he scheduled... He has been here 6 days now.... He might have to leave tomorrow night without having done his check-ride.

The fair ends on Monday. The weather should improve if history is any indication.
