Default Clam Gulch Property and RV Pad

So I have my eye on a 2 acre parcel off of Clam Gulch Rd. (Not Bluff, but not far from it) and was hoping anyone familiar with the area can provide some insight on what I should expect.

What I would like to do is put in a driveway and RV Pad for now.

I walked the site over the weekend and it felt pretty firm and I didn't end up knee deep in any water.

Can anyone shed any light on that area? Can I expect to do extensive site work to put in a driveway and pad?

Other neighboring cabins/homes don't seem like they did much work to put in their driveways and pads.

Id like to do as much of the work myself.
    Any information appreciated.

    Thanks, Andy

I helped a friend on his Clam Gulch lot years ago. We figured a couple of weekends. Once we turned the dirt we found good gravel right at the surface. There were silty pockets on occasion. We cleared and did the drive and a pad in 2 days.
This was across from the large radio antenna. That is higher ground.
I went by there this week. The alders are fast reclaiming the pad we did. He passed away not long after we did the work, so the land was never used for a home.

Thanks for the info!!! I may need to bring along a shovel next time I'm out and dig a few holes. I hear you on the alders they were thick on this property.

Much of the ground down here has an excellent gravel base but there are swampy areas that are readily apparent. Some of the swamps have no bottom. (Ok, somewhere they do). But for the most part you should be able to walk the property and tell if you have good ground or not.

Anyone got any recommendations for a local contractor in the kenai/clam gulch area that can put in a driveway and pad this spring?

Collins excavation did my driveway in Homer. I would not hesitate to use him again, not sure he works that far North but worth a try.

Tracy Covey in Ninilchik might also be an option. Although they may be out of state till spring, I believe they check their msgs every week or so.

Tracy Covey has been great for us in Ninilchik, watch for the spring road weight restrictions, the roads get posted until Memorial Weekend or later depending on the frost.
