Default Halibut, Bird, Halibut, King!! 12th consecutive months catching a king from a yak!

Video of Sunday. Halibut, Bird, Halibut, King. Lol. Bird lovers, rejoice in that the bird was completely unharmed. Wasn't hooked even though the initial hit came 65 feet down!!!!

Sunday, I fish the low tide at Whiskey Gulch. Landed 4 halibut, kept two that were 20 to 25 pounds. I also managed a King Salmon on my halibut gear. That king whacked my bait 5 or 6 times before getting hooked. Didnít bring a net, but with 200lbs leader and 12/0 hooks, no problem hauling it in as I could see the fish was well hooked

But still, the prize for perseverance goes to a bird. I get hit bouncing bottom in 65 feet of water. As I reel up there isnít much fight. I look and there is a bird clamped onto my herring. Just as I was bumming out, it lets go. I didnít think it could get a 12/0 big river hook down. So as I am getting ready to deploy, it goes after my bait again. Got a little footage.

So all in all it was a slow weekend. But who can complain? 12 consecutive months with a king caught from my kayak in Alaska!!! Woohoo!!!

Thanks! I thought the reporter did a great job. You gotta LOVE these kayaks!!!! I scratch my head a lot when I am catching fish without another soul near me. Frankly I'd rather see a few...no, LOT more folks out there! They make great fish finders and there is always additional safety in numbers!

I've thoroughly enjoyed reading your posts and viewing the videos. I live in California, but do visit my cabin in AK to fish during red season. I've kayaked lakes and rivers in CA and AK, but never ever dared/tried saltwater. And never fished off a kayak as I'm just a beginning kayaker. But one day, I'll be out there kayak fishing! Until then, I'll live vicariously through you...

Awesome! I can't wait to get up there (in the spring) from Oregon here.
