Default who is fishing whole herring in PWS?

Found this guy in the belly of a 8lb coho on Saturday. For reference, the blade on this knife is 8 inches. Notice the hook in the picture by the head? Someone was fishing a whole herring setup and this guy busted the leader. Pretty big bait for a small fish

I cut 2" pieces for my silver trolling. I have had a lot of success and the bait goes way further.

look up the old harbor way of rigging Francis post about it on another forum some time ago but I'm a big fan of it for any herring or anchovy fishery. Very effective way to rig whole baits. But for coho I like brads or hootchies coho are dumb.

I was out in driftwood bay this past weekend and we where using full size tray herring along with the full size hearing you use for halibut. The silvers seemed to like the bigger baits for some reason. We did pick up a few jacks on the full size hearing as well.

Never had a problem picking up coho with herring filleted and cut into ~1" wide strips. But I usually time my trips so they are in thick.
Those that are successful in Alaska are those who are flexible, and allow the reality of life in Alaska to shape their dreams, vs. trying to force their dreams on the reality of Alaska.

If you have a tenuous grasp of reality, Alaska is not for you.

Did it have a bead chain on the hook?
