    Default Ketchikan Info

I'm headed up from NC to visit my sister in Ketchikan June 29-July 8. I want to fish while I'm there and just looking for some info. I'd like to charter a boat at least one time while I'm there but really trying to find out where I can fish from shore. I'd love to take home some salmon/halibut but I'm happy catching anything. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Halibut from shore will be a tuff one. Mountain point south of towm, lots of good casting from there that time frame for silvers, pinks and maybe a king or 2. As well, Herrign cove will have kings, but they will be getting dark and will have been hit hard by the snaggers by that time frame. Call Ryan about a charter down there, he's the man. http://fishinkodiak.com/contact-us/ His web address is misleading, he came up here for one year before heading back to Ketch with his wife.
Life's to short for an ugly boat

Thanks for the info. Excuse my ignorance, but what does it mean when they are "getting dark".

Getting dark means past their prime and moving into the spawning stage of their life cycle. In other words, you don't want to eat them.
Not sure about the ketchikan kings but right across the straits is Prince of Wales island where I fish every year and July 4 is peaking for Kings.

Also am from NC, Raleigh area, now landlocked in Utah with work but fish AK every year for the last 16. Were it me staying In Ketchikan that long would contact this guy and book with him...Howard Kim. Depending on your sense of adventure and health.

The guide I've gotten comfortable with in Ketchikan is Bruce of True Alaskan charters http://www.truealaskancharters.com/

You might want to consider some light tackle freshwater fishing along Ward creek and Ward lake. It's easy access and a beautiful place. Just not sure offhand if there will be any salmon in there at that time, but there ought to be trout and dolly varden.

When the pinks are in and the boats are out, the folks at Clover Pass sometimes let people cast from their dock. There's the Creek Street bridge, but that's elbow to elbow combat fishing in my opinion.

*edit* on second thought, just rent a skiff from Clover Pass for a day. They're comfortable enough for one or two people to fish from, fairly economical, and you're sure to catch some salmon trolling in one of those. Just remember to bring raingear.

Good advise from all, besides Clover Pass rental there is also Knudson Cove Marina just a few blocks from Clover Pass Marina, they also rent boats for the day. Both of these marinas are located about 14 miles north of town.

I appreciate all the info so far. I've researched several charter options. I should have some gear waiting on me when I get there but will likely need more, mainly lures and bait.
