    Default Funny River Fire

Just saw a pic on Facebook... blaze being observed by boats on the river. Old news from last year or another new fire?

There is a fire in the Sterling area that is new/now/this year, last I heard (today) it was 600 acres, might be twice that by tomorrow.

Saw the smoke when I was in sterling yesterday. Turned on the radio and they said 5 acre fire.
Got home and my wife said it was up to 150 acres.
    Now over 1,200 acres.

ANCHORAGE - 7:00 p.m. UPDATE: A second evacuation has been issued for the Kenai Keys subdivision as the Card Street Fire has expanded to 2,000 acres, officials wrote in a press release.
The fire is less than a mile east of the subdivision that is being evacuated now, officials wrote.

"Firefighters are holding it out of the area but they want to get people out in the event wind associated with thunderstorm cells building to the east produces winds that could fan the flames," forestry officials wrote.
Officials say that the Card Street Fire, like the Sockeye Fire raging in Willow, is a human-caused fire.

I have friends who have evacuated. My son took in an elderly woman who had to evacuate. I am quite a distance from the fire, but still keeping my equipment out in the open in the middle of my pit. With the weather conditions we're having, some bozo could get another fire going near me.

Skilak Lake CG's are now closed as well as Skilak Lake Rd.

There is another fire in Cooper Landing in the hills behind Sackett's that has Sackett's closed as well as Cooper Creek CG.

Still burning... but not as bad and away from homes for the most part. Check Anchorage Daily News (ADN.com) for more info and updates.

I can't find any updates on the fire situation.
    Is the peninsula still burning?
Is it OK for camp fires?

    Thanks for any info.

I floated the middle Kenai yesterday. Saw a couple small smoldering hot spots just off the river near the Skilak outlet.
