So we decided to try hunting for Morels in the funny river burn area.
I knew funny river road would be a mad house and reports were it was hard to find a parking spot with all the shroom hunters.
But being a local I knew several other ways to access the area.
After picking up my mom and getting some advice from my dad we were off.
Decided against dads advice to use the boat. We will do that later.
So off we went to the area we planned to hunt.
After 15 minutes of easy hiking from the public road we were into the burn area.
Found a nice south facing hillside and began the search. Nada we couldn't find one morel.
So off we went. Found some large rocks and we decided to take a break and sit on the rocks. My mom decided to look around so I followed her.
Minutes later I spotted my first Morel. Turns out there was more than one.
From then on it was on for the next couple hours!
A couple of hours later we had 2 gallons of nice morels.
Here's a pic of my wife and stepson with some Morels they found in one small area.
What a great day and they sure are tasty. For the record we didn't need a 4 wheeler, boat or airplane to find these. A simple 15 minute hike on our feet was all it took.
Looked at map and picked our area. and made it happen. This was my first ever morel hunt.
So my advice is get out there and find these tasty mushrooms. You don't need anyone telling you where to go.
You can easily find them on your own I know we did!
