Thread: Fish bonker

    Default Fish bonker

Tired of missing the flopping fish's head and beating the heck out of my fiberglass deck. Had this 1.5" diameter chunk of dowl laying around so I put this heavy rubber table leg thingy on it. Large diameter is easier for me to grip. Offered to try it out on my neighbor, but he ran off...so I can only assume it will work well. Highly technical operation required about $5 and 5 minutes to complete.

Simple is always better, not to mention cheaper when it ends up in the water.

Works for me! How about drilling a hole in the back end and putting a wrist loop back there. I seem to have the most trouble hanging onto them.

it looks good but I want it to be a little heavy so I don't have to beat on them more than once , a wooden dowel is a little light , if it is heavy ,only one hit will work just fine good luck SID

I'll fancy it up. Working on a project boat so I'll seal it when I have some excess epoxy. I like to whip finish my knots with mason's twine so will do a grip wrap at the top and stick in a nice webbed loop in as you suggest. By the time I'm done, I bet I could get 75-80 cents a copy at a yard sale.

The thing is about 18" long and the rubber tip weighs as much as the dowl...heavy moment on the very end of an arm. Should equate to serious bonk. My neighbor obviously believes in it...he's still runnin' even after I promised to take care of his beautiful wife if the test went gunnybag.

A black bear femur works like a million bucks. Use the ball end, one and done. The one we have came from a bear about 250 pounds or so. Just right.

There's tons of blackies on POW and sometimes they slink out of the woods on OUR side of the river to grab a fish....never got close enough to use one's leg as a fish bonker though.....5 yards was close enough...
