    Default Kenai Pennisula

So my buddy and I were down on the Kenai Saturday scoping out some areas and looking for ATV trails/ places to hunt for both Black and Brown bears. We were as successful as we hoped. We were looking a lot around Kenai Lake. Does anyone have any suggestions or know area where we can take wheelers. Not looking for your spot just general areas that would be worth looking at. I know Hope is hunted a lot so we are looking to stay out of that area. Thanks for any advice.

ATV trails off the KP road system?

    Good luck.

Seeing that most the peninsula is Refuge, there's hardly anywhere atv's are allowed. Best to take the truck, park along the highway somewhere and get out the glasses...

Thanks for the info. We thought as much about the atv. Just didn't know because I notice a lot of empty trailers and atv down there, so I wanted to ask. Hiked a lot on Saturday just didn't see anything.

There are a few places they are used to access private cabins on private land, which is why you see them down here. I've lived down here 8 years now and I've never had the desire to own an ATV here because of the lack of places to use one.

If I were you, I'd save the gas for Aug/Sept, when the bears will be more visible on berries.

A lot of ATV owners here used to use them for Clamming and many still use them dipnetting on the beach or to access their mining claims in the Chugach(Sometimes by special permit).
Like others have said the refuge and the Chugach National forest do strictly limit their use.

The trailers you see in the mountains are allowed to access active mining claims. There are trails in the chugach forest that allow atv such as mill creek. North kenai you can drive out to grey cliffs. In clam gulch and homer you can drive into the caribou hills. But you will find much better hunting on the kenai if you hike in.
