Default need help identifying this part on yamaha outboard

Trying to figure out what this is for, and aslo how to replace. Was replacing the seals on my seastar steering ram. To get the glands off, I needed to remove the two nuts of the system. The part in question has an electron wire that leads to it, has bracekts on both ends of the system that are secured by the nuts of the sea star system. In addition there is a long black rod that runs the lenght of the sea star system. This was the best picture I could get and you can see the black rod. The bracket holding one end of it is broken and it looks like I need to replace the entire unit. Looked at seastar website and cant find any reference for it. Not sure what it is designed to do?

Mystery solved, it is the rudder reference unit for my Furuno autopilot system. Now to track down replacement brackets.
