    Default Whittier Harbor getting fancy

I was bored today so I was browsing the Whitter Harbor webpage and noticed they have a request for proposals out to get modern payment kiosks for the harbor parking lot and ramp. In the proposal it says the system must allow web payment as well as smart phone payment options. Wouldn't it be nice to pay for your launch and/or parking before you left your house and not have to stand in the rain filling out the form and remember to have the cash to pay with you.

Now if we could just get the private lot to upgrade to no boulders or lakes in the lot we would be home free.

How about pump out station for waste disposal too, like most ports such as homer and seward for instance.
Instead they want to make it easier to pay them for no upgrades......woo-hoo!

A pump out station should be required by law, can't dump your sewage anywhere in PWS and no pump out in one of the biggest ports...

Crazy thought, how about removing all that jagged steel/vertical piping off the end of the last launch lane. Wouldn't that be nice?
Or, why not reopen the 2nd launch again??

Nah, instead we'll spend money to make it easier to bill the customer.......gotta love Whittier!
Sure hope it was a April 1st joke.

Not the one that my family has been paying for since the 1970s. It is a serious danger - listing at at least 30 degrees and full of holes. If you set down a bucket or bag, it's going over the edge. Nope, can't fix that one.

I saw something where the legislature was taking about all the harbors that they want to fund upgrades for, and Whittier was not even on the list. They continue to put money into small communities in southeast that have 1/100 the use that Whittier does, but somehow they never make the list. There was even talk about Seward, which so decades ahead of where the Whittier harbor is. I don't get it.

We use the pump out station all of the time. It's on a trailer with a long hose. We call the harbor and they usually do it right away. There was another on D float, but I'm not sure if it's still around. Parking will be interesting. It should be better in the long run, but there will be hassles with the construction.

they are adding more bolts to stick out of the floats . That harbor needs to be privatized, lease it to somebody that knows how to run a marina.

What do they charge to use the pump out? How would a non slip holder go about using it?

    The question is:

Will the cost of procuring and powering the machines be passed to consumers of the services they accept payment for?

    Or...

Will we see a decrease in the launch fee schedule due to the lesser cost of printing and providing the envelopes and the man hours required to manually process the cash payments traditionally collected?

    Ummm, let me think....

Free launch after a year cause whatever they install will be broken by then.
