    Default Sockeye Salmon Tags

Wow!!! Just read about it in the newspaper. Now they are considering a Sockeye SalmonTag for sport and dipnet fishermen on the Copper, Kenai and Kasilof Rivers. I wonder if it is to include just those rivers or will it be for the entire southcentral area. Whats next? A boot tax or weight tax? Im guna go broke just trying to enjoy my fishin....

What is the short of it? Is it a one time fee or per fish?

I'd rather see a dipnetting stamp than a general sockeye stamp. (I am a dipnetter and would gladly pay the fee.) That said, at this point I would support darn near anything that would better fund our underfunded F&G dept.

I'd like to see then go for a punch card tag system for X amount of reds per person and X per family adjusted seasonally by escapement prediction. Catch a red with rod and reel, be it big, small, scarred, mouth or foul hooked, whatever, that fish is yours. Punch your tag and throw it in the cooler. Reach your limit that day, or the next or in a month, and you're done for the year. No dip nets, no C&R, just meat fishery and done. Multiple problems solved (and probably some new problems created as well).

Hopefully they aren't as expensive as the king stamps.

They will cost $10.00 for resident (more for nonres of course) unless HB137 is passed, then they will cost $15.00. Of course if HB137 passes then all f/g licienses and tag fee are goin up...

The State is broke folks...they are looking for all kinds of new and exciting ways to fleece the populous!

With that said, I can see some good coming out of a sockeye stamp.

Whats with the personal attacks man? No need for that here. 245$ is alot of money for some people just for some sockeyes. I assume they are going to jump the commercial license and dip net fees too?

Not an attack. But also most non residents don't get a year long license either.

I'll pay. The AK resident fishing license is still the best deal on the planet. Kids free until 16 is a hell of a deal, too. I'll even give 'em a gratuity if it means they could hire an F&G agent to watch over certain valley catch and release lakes and bust some poachers!

Im more than happy to shell out the money if it goes to helping stop poaching. The amount of illegal trout I see stringered on the kenai is sickening some times.
