    Default An "Off Grid" Question

Howdy, I seen Dick Proenneke & Babe Alsworth mentioned in another post and how Babe flew things in "cheaply" for Dick. I have watched the railroad show on T.V. and they just wait by the tracks get on & off, get supplies delivered & things sent to be repaired at the drop of a hat. My question??? Is it that easy & how much does it cost? Never any mention of fees or prices, these folks live where I imagine there are not many jobs and not much income, so as a rough estimate how much would it cost to have a load of plywood delivered to track side? I realize it`s reality T.V. with probably not much reality to it and my wife says I over think things but thats just way too easy. Thanks, Mike

Railroad info is here. You can call them and find out specific info.

the tarrif fees are convoluted, but they have a whole section on building materials. They charge by the mile using the siding location. Then they have fuel sure charges.

And yes you can just wait by the tracks and do a whistle stop to get on an off the train.
