Default crab/prawn pots using double braid polyester rope?

hi all, would this be a good choice for pots?
..why i am asking is because it seems to be the
rope of choice for the honda portable winch i will.be buying for the jet boat(getting unstuck/moose.dragger)!...i would then buy in bulk
and try to save some.dollars!!...looking at 7/16s or 1/2 inch rope!...thx larry

I use the poly for the bottom pot string run but use nylon for the top shot. The poly will float, which is good to keep it out of the rocks but floating buoy line is a big no-no. Also, I found the tarred nylon longline rope is way too stiff for storing on a small boat. It doesn't flake well into a tub or garbage can like soft lay 3 strand nylon will. I use 1/4" goldline for my top shot and it flakes and stores really well. A standard garbage can will hold two to three 600' sets with 25 fathoms of 1/2" poly bottom string.

1/2 or 7/16 is way heavy to pots. I set up all my customers with a high quality 5/16 floating line that is used between the pots and a braided sinking rope that goes from the float line up to the buoy. For your winch line i'd look into some of that Amsteel style ropes very strong for a small diameter and no stretch.
