Thread: Alexander Creek Pike?

  1. #1

    Default Alexander Creek Pike?

Who has fished it? I've heard different rumors. But it sounds like there are a lot of big pike and it's not really getting fished all that much. It would be about an 80-mile roundtrip from Deshka Landing just to get to the mouth so that probably deters a lot of folks who would rather just fish for salmon and trout. Has anyone done it? Any pictures? Any success? Does anyone want to go this summer?

You might want to look up some of the recent publishings of the ADFG. They have been netting the heck out of the pike in A-ck and have been fairly successful at it.

Thanks Bull. I remember reading something a while ago about the netting operation. I wonder if it will really make any difference...

Does anyone know if any of the lodges there still operate in the summer or have they all shut down due to the lack of kings?

The creek itself does not support many LARGE pike. The pike that have been netted in the creek are fairly small compared to what's in the lake. I would focus your attention to the pike that reside in the lake if you want large specimens.

I am pretty sure that ALL of the lodges are shut down on the river. There may be something open on the lake - I am not sure though.

There are still Pike even at the mouth. Caught a three footer in my lagoon this summer. All lodges have been closed for years but I have a Cabin for rent when people want to come out. Rainbows and Grayling are killer in the late fall but both are catch and release. They will be netting down stream some this year. F&G put in a weir this year as the Kings are doing better than they have in a decade. Anyone killing Pike gets a discount on the cabin! LOL

I fished Alexander last summer and we did real good in one hole. Nothing big but caught several at horse shoe bend. Went above trail creek and fished the sloughs and didn't even get a hit. F&G are really putting a big dent in them, so much that the fishing for them is getting trickier. I would definatly suggest taking Alexander up on his cabin rental and give it a try.
